Amelia Weight Parry- December 2017
Our December “Women of Wool” feature is Amelia Weight Parry. She was the 2016 National Make it With Wool Senior Ambassador. She is currently the Utah State co-director for the Make it With Wool competition with her mother Karen Weight and enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion with others. Although she does not have any sheep of her own her Great Grandfather had many as well as many other family and friends. She has helped multiple ranchers with shearing, lambing and herding which continues to strengthen her love for this industry. Her hobbies include sewing, of course, horseback riding, camping, the outdoors, eating chocolate and watching John Wayne movies with her family. Amelia has been competing in the Make it With Wool Competition since she was a sophomore in high school. She started sewing quilts, crafts and other small projects at a young age. Her passion for sewing came from her mother, who competed in the MIWW competition as a young girl, and grandmothers. She has since made five different outfits for the Make it With Wool contest which include a gray jumper, a chocolate suit, a peach dress, a gray dress and white coat, and finally a coral dress and black coat. The outfits are all lined, fitted and accessorized to make them the complete package. She still wears and loves each and every outfit that she has made. Amelia spent her year as the National Senior Ambassador talking to high school and junior high sewing classes about sewing and the contest, visiting stock shows, and she even found time to get married before the 2017 competition in Denver, Colorado. Amelia has a passion for sewing and the wool industry and hopes to share this love with many others. Come out and support the Utah Make it with Wool competition next Saturday, December 9th at Mapleton Junior High School. Judging starts are 9:00am and the Fashion Show will start at 3:00pm!
